Salt Lake County Immigration Resolution

On June 11, community leaders and advocates came together to encourage Salt Lake County to adopt a resolution that makes it clear that the county stands with immigrants!

At such a crucial moment when our immigrant communities constantly feel under attack, it is important to ensure that our representatives ensure the safety of those whom they represent. Councilmember Shireen Ghorbani’s resolution served as the foundation for the resolution that was passed by the council urging Utah’s congressional delegation to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. The resolution also encourages the County to provide adequate access to health and social resources and to make a reasonable effort to keep families together amidst threats of family separation.

Our community leaders shared powerful stories highlighting the challenges, contributions, and resiliency of the immigrant community in Utah. Allies and members of the Enriching Utah Coalition also spoke in support of the resolution. We refuse to give in to the current anti-immigrant rhetoric and will continue to work to uplift the stories of immigrant families.

We thank Councilmember Ghorbani for her leadership and commitment to ensuring all are welcomed here!
